2024 in Numbers

As the football year of 2024 comes to a close, let us reflect on some key statistics that have characterised the last twelve months.

18. Eighteen postponements have occurred throughout the year 2024.

The Holt House pitch endured significant wear and tear during December last year, rendering it nearly unplayable for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Repairs were carried out on the pitch, thanks to our stadium sponsors, Haffners. Fortunately, this season has seen only one postponement, which was due to snow. (Snow is forecast for next weekend—don’t hold me accountable!)

We have participated in 59 competitive matches this year, alongside 7 friendly fixtures. In those 59 games, the Reds have secured 29 victories, suffered 30 defeats, and drawn 8 times. Notably, 7 of those draws ended in score draws.

The Reds concluded 2024 with a total of 80 goals scored. However, the flow of goals has slowed considerably, with Altrincham striker Lucas Weaver emerging as our top scorer for the calendar year. The Reds have struggled with scoring, failing to find the net on 17 occasions, which accounts for 28% of matches played in 2024.

On Saturday, we conceded our 101st goal of the year. It could—and arguably should—have remained below a century, but a recent collapse added to that total. This season has seen us concede an alarming number of goals, including two stinging 8-0 defeats. Despite this, we have achieved 10 clean sheets, with 70% of these coming from the previous campaign.

Our largest win of 2024 took place at home (Well, Steeton) where the Reds triumphed with a resounding 7-1 scoreline against Cheadle.

Throughout 2024, the Reds have welcomed 7099 fans through the turnstiles, with the highest attendance recorded this season at 1,038.

For the first time in our history, we employed 3 managers within a single calendar year. Following Paul Weller's resignation, we appointed Stuart Mellish, whose tenure was abruptly cut short due to a series of heavy defeats. Subsequently, Andy Harrison took charge as we strive to climb out of the relegation zone.

Champions of Lancashire. The reds end 2024 with 1 trophy, winning the Lancashire Challenge Trophy for the first time, back in May, when they defeated Bamber Bridge 5-2.
