Colne had to settle for a point after letting a two goal lead slip against Glossop North End at the Haffners Stadium on Saturday. The Reds looked to be on course for a much needed win until the visitors staged a dramatic comeback in the last ten minutes to level the scores.
Colne got off to a great start and took the lead after six minutes when Alfie Walker cut in from the left wing past a static Glossop defence and saw his fierce shot loop into the net off the gloves of visitors’ keeper Alex Brown.
Colne looked to build on their lead but it was Glossop who enjoyed most of the attacking in the first half and the Reds defence was tested on several occasions with Sam Holt and Shak Ali making some vital clearances under pressure. Colne keeper Harry Turner received lengthy treatment for an injury after making a brave save in his goalmouth with the Glossop attack in full cry.
Glossop had loud claims for a penalty waved aside by the referee after a shot by Tom Lawless was blocked in the Reds penalty area and Colne had to withstand a period of pressure just before the half time interval to preserve their one goal lead.
The Reds emerged in the second half in a positive attacking mood and forced a series of corners. Walker’s curling cross into the Glossop goalmouth was headed down by Jack Holt and cleared off the line by a defender before Jude Entwistle followed up to force home the rebound and double Colne’s lead on 50 minutes.
Colne continued to press and Miles Storey saw his goal-bound shot well saved by the keeper five minutes later. Entwistle shot wide from a half chance after 67 minutes but Nathan Cliffe had a glorious chance to increase Colne’s lead after 74 minutes when he was through on goal but saw his shot fly just wide of the post.
But Glossop were always dangerous on the break and after 80 minutes pulled a goal back when a cross from the right wing was forced home by Lewis Reilly despite the best efforts of the Colne defence to clear.
Colne looked to restore their two goal cushion as Cliffe saw his well struck 20 yard shot saved by the keeper and as full time approached the Reds fought hard to hold on to their lead. But as the game went into added time, Colne came under pressure from another right wing cross and Reilly fired home from close range for a dramatic equaliser.
